Get Ready For A Fun Filled Summer!

CABINS
All of our campers live in cabins of 4 - 10 people. Our younger campers live in cabin groups of approximately 8 - 10 campers and have counsellors who live right in the cabin with them. At about age 11, campers start to live in smaller groups with their counsellor living in a cabin next door or across the path. Our cabins are in a rustic setting with bunk beds and cots with mattresses to sleep on. Upon arrival campers choose the bunk they would like to sleep on, unroll their sleeping bag, place their pillow on their bunk and they are ready to go!

Morning inspections serve a number of purposes. Not only do we make sure our camper cabins are tidied, but our staff members are looking to see if the campers are taking regular showers, if they have any mosquito bites that need attention, if they have laundry that needs to be done, and if they are properly dressed for the day.
Morning clean-up is a fun time for the campers where they compete for the "tidiest cabin", but it also provides us an excellent opportunity to make sure the individual campers' needs are being met.

DINING HALL
Our Dining Hall is not only where we eat our meals but it also contains our history. Campers from previous years often return to Kandalore to find their name on a plaque or an Explorer Paddle.

Its most important function however is as our dining hall. Each cabin group eats family-style with their counsellors for breakfast and dinner. During these meals our staff are trained to make sure each camper is getting enough to eat, to monitor their interaction within the cabin group and get a general feel for their well-being. At lunchtime the campers can eat with whomever they please. It is a good time to sit with friends from another cabin or with siblings who may be at camp. Staff members are always at each table supervising the meal and interacting with the campers.

HEALTH CENTRE
Our Health Centre is staffed by our Camp Doctor and Nurse. Campers who have prescription medicines, are ill or have a minor injury are treated here and returned to the program. Our health staff, like our counsellors are on-call 24 hours a day. If anything requires further attention our Doctor will refer our campers to a hospital in either Minden or Huntsville (15 & 45 minutes away respectively). Campers are shown the location of our Health Centre on their first day at Kandalore during their camp tour.
