Camp Counsellor
Location: Camp Kandalore – Algonquin Highlands
Reports to: Assistant Director, Camp Life
Camp Kandalore is seeking inspiring counsellors to join our team this summer. This position is an overnight summer camp role from June 22nd – August 27th, 2024.
We are the finest traditional summer camp in Canada providing the best in both canoe tripping and in camp activities.
Our counsellors support, inspire, and care about campers. Living together in cabins of eight to ten, campers learn to trust and count on one another. The age range of our campers is 6-15 years old and the camp is divided into three sections prep juniors (6-11), inters (12-13), seniors (14-15). Our counsellors report to their section head and throughout the day work at various activities that the camp provides.
All of our Staff are required to have a minimum of Bronze Cross and First Aid certification.

Canoe Trip Guide
Location: Camp Kandalore – Algonquin Highlands
Reports to: Director, Trip Director
Camp Kandalore is seeking whitewater canoe guides to lead 4 – 12 day wilderness trips with campers ages 12 – 16 on rivers in Ontario and Quebec. Based on experience, canoe trip guide candidates may be considered to lead our Explorer Program – July and/or August, 21 to 24 day long river trips. This position is an overnight summer camp role from June 14th – August 27th, 2024.
The Program
Kandalore has a longstanding reputation as one of Canada’s premier canoe tripping camps. We offer campers an unmatched canoe tripping experience, starting from age 6, with the program designed to gradually introduce new skills and challenges as they get older. Core trippers exclusively paddle whitewater rivers with older campers.Core Trippers guide various rivers each summer in Ontario and Quebec including:
- Madawaska
- Mattawa
- Spanish River
- French River
- Dumoine
- Colounge
- Magnetawan
- Noire
- Petawawa
And many more!
The Explorer Program
The camp prides itself on the culminating trip experience that our 16 year old leaders embark upon – The Explorer Program.All Explorer rivers are significant distances from the camps including such rivers as:
- Moisie
- Broadback
- Duchef
- Bloodvein
- Attawapiskat
- Albany
- Kesagami
And many more!
Requirements:
- Certified with Wilderness First Responder (Kandalore offers course in the spring)
- Certified with Swift Water Rescue Technician (Kandalore offers course in the spring)
- Bronze Cross or higher is mandatory and no exceptions can be made.
- Experience leading canoe trips in remote settings.
- Experience with white water canoeing.

Program Managers
Location: Camp Kandalore – Algonquin Highlands
Reports to: Program Director & Assistant Director of Program Operations
Camp Kandalore is seeking Program Managers to oversee and manage the activity areas in camp, and support with special events. This position is an overnight summer camp role from June 18th – August 27th, 2024.
The Role:
-
- Responsible for managing a specialized program area as a whole and the enforcement of all safety policies and procedures
- Manage a team of staff for each activity within the specified program area
- Provide feedback to all staff, including informal and bi-weekly reviews
- Planning/facilitating appropriate lesson plans for all campers
- Tracking of each campers level progression and completing report cards for the end of each session
- Demonstrating strong skills necessary for the program that you are managing; must have the appropriate certifications and trainings that will allow for safe and engaging facilitation
- Enforce and establish proper care and handling of all equipment
- Personally conduct written evaluations for LITs and Pathfinders every 2 weeks
- Demonstrates a constant understanding of program needs/inventory
- Ensures each activity area is kept clean, organized and properly maintained each day
- Facilitates opportunities for further skill development during 5:00pm activity time
- Participates in our patrol and supervision duties during camper down times (rest hour, free time and evenings)
- Supports other aspects of Kandalore’s in-camp program e.x. Tuckshop facilitation, special programs, leadership programs etc.
- Have an active presence in camp life. Enjoy the Kandalore environment and participate in camp-wide events

Driver
Job Type: Seasonal, June 19th – August 27th, 2024
Location: Camp Kandalore – Algonquin HighlandsReports to: Assistant Director – Operations
Description
Camp Kandalore is looking for a positive and enthusiastic individual to fill the role as a Camp Driver. The successful applicant will be friendly, responsible, well-organized and be prepared to drive at any time of day or night in the event of an emergency. Familiarity or experience with summer camp is recommended. This position requires someone who is flexible, patient and happy to support others.
Responsibilities include:
- Level of comfort driving with a trailer
- Ensure canoes and equipment are secured properly
- Conducting town-runs to pick up necessary supplies
- Assist in Airport and Union station pick up and drop off in Toronto
- Assist in Hospital runs when needed
- Cleaning camp vehicles, daily fluid and safety kit check
- Obey all traffic rules, including speed limits
- Support in-camp
Qualifications include:
- Full G license
- Clean driving record
- Minimum of 21 years of age
- Ability to problem solve
- Flexible and able to adapt to change
- Enjoys working with children

Nurse
Job Type: Seasonal, June 19th – August 27th, 2024

Description
Camp Kandalore is looking for a positive and enthusiastic RN or RPN to fill the role of Nurse on our Healthcare Team.
The successful applicant will provide friendly, patient focused health care and be responsible, well-organized, team oriented and able to cope with a busy clinic atmosphere.
Our nursing staff look after all the various health needs of our campers and staff. Duties include tending to injuries, running daily clinics, administering medication, and educating campers and staff on their physical and mental health and wellness.
This position includes a competitive salary, room and board, clinical experience, and a fantastic summer at camp. One doctor will be on-site for the duration of the summer contract.Minimum Qualifications:
- Registered Nurse (RN) or Registered Practical Nurse (RPN) Qualification
- Experience working with children and youth, preferably in a camp setting
- CPR-C and standard first aid. Other qualifications (swim, AED, etc.) an asset
- Experience working in a team
- Hardworking, adaptable, and enthusiastic

Maintenance
Job Type: Seasonal
Location: Camp Kandalore – Algonquin HighlandsReports to: Site Manager
Description
Camp Kandalore is looking to hire three candidates to be our cleaning crew this summer. Located 12 minutes North of Carnarvon off of Highway 35, we are a co-ed residential summer camp for campers aged 6-16.
The general duties of the cleaning crew include:
- Supply Washrooms and other common areas with necessary materials
- Cleaning of camp common areas including washrooms and shower facilities
- Assisting maintenance staff with the upkeep of the camp facilities
- Painting, groundskeeping, dock work and other minor repairs of camp structures
Requirements:
- Must enjoy working outside and being part of a fun loving community
- Willing to work six days a week, afternoons, and weekends
- Able to lift 25lbs continuously and work in a physically demanding environment
- Able to work as a positive member of a team as well as independently
